Ayat wa Ahadith
26-04-2008
Ayat
“Verily Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties;
for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allah’s Cause, so
they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth, which is binding,
on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who is truer to His
covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain, which you have concluded. That
is the supreme success.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayat 111)
“Permission to fight is given to those (i.e. Believers against disbelievers) who
are fighting them (and) because they (Believers) have been wronged, and surely
Allah is Able to give them (Believers) Victory. Those who have been expelled
from their homes unjustly only because they said:”Our Lord is Allah.” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 22 Ayat 39-40)
“Will ye not fight a folk who broke their solemn pledges, and purposed to drive
out the messenger and did attack you first ? What! Fear ye them ? Now Allah hath
more right that ye should fear Him, if ye are believers Fight them! Allah will
chastise them at your hands, and He will lay them low and give you victory over
them, and He will heal the breasts of folk who are believers.” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayat 13-14)
“How should ye not fight for the cause of Allah and of the feeble among men and
of the women and the children who are crying: Our Lord! Bring us forth from out
this town of which the people are oppressors! Oh, give us from thy presence some
protecting friend! Oh, give us from Thy presence some defender!” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 4 Ayat 75)
“Thus [you are ordered by Allah to continue in carrying out Jihad against the
disbelievers till they embrace Islam (i.e. are saved from the punishment in the
Hell fire) or at least come under your protection] but if it had been Allah’s
Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets
you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in
the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost, He will guide them and
set right their state. And admit them to Paradise which He has made known to
them (i.e. they will know their places in Paradise more than they used to know
their houses in this world).” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 47 Ayat 4-5-6)
“March forth whether you are light (being healthy, young and wealthy) or heavy
(being ill, old and poor), strive hard with your wealth and your lives in the
Cause of Allah. This is better for you, if you but knew.” (The Noble Qur’an:
Surah 9 Ayah 41)
“Not equal are those of the Believers who sit (at home) except those who are
disabled (by injury, or are blind, or lame, etc.) and those who strive hard and
fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has
preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives
above those who sit (at home). Unto each Allah has promised good (Paradise), but
Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at
home) by a huge reward. Degrees of (higher) grades from Him, and Forgiveness and
Mercy. And Allah is Ever Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah
4 Ayat 95-96)
“…That is because they suffer neither thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger in the
Cause of Allah (swt), nor they take any step to raise the anger of disbelievers
nor inflict any injury upon an enemy but is written to their credit as a deed of
righteousness. Surely Allah loses not the reward of the Muhsinun.” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayah 120)
“Nor do they spend anything (in Allah’s Cause) - small or great - nor cross a
valley, but is written to their credit…” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayah 121)
“Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to
those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and
ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along
with him said, “When (will come) the Help of Allah?” Yes! Certainly, the Help of
Allah is near!” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 2 Ayah 214)
“Jihad (holy fighting in Allah’s Cause) is ordained for you (Muslims) though you
dislike it, and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and
that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.”
(The Noble Qur’an: Surah 2 Ayah 216)
“O you who Believe! When you meet (an enemy) force take a firm stand against
them and remember the Name of Allah much (both with tongue and mind), so that
you may be successful.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 8 Ayah 45)
“So when you meet (in fight - Jihad in Allah’s Cause) those who disbelieve,
smite at their necks till you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a
bond firmly (on them i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time)
either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom) or ransom (according to
what benefits Islam), until the war lays down its burden…” (The Noble Qur’an:
Surah 47 Ayah 4)
“And don’t be weak in the pursuit of the enemy; if you are suffering (hardships)
then surely they (too) are suffering (hardships) as you are suffering, but you
have a hope from Allah (for the Reward i.e. Paradise) that for which they hope
not.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 4 Ayah 104)
“And many a Prophet (i e many from amongst the Prophets) fought (in Allah’s
Cause) and along with them (fought) large bands of Religious Learned men. But
they never lost heart for that which did befall them in Allah’s Way, nor did
they weaken, nor degrade themselves. And Allah loves the patient ones.” (The
Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayah 146)
“O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a commerce that will save you from a
painful torment?” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah 10)
“That you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad) and that you strive hard
and fight in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives…” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah 11)
“…that will be better for you if you but know!” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah
11)
“(If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under
which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in Gardens of Eternity ( ‘Adn Paradise)
- that is indeed the Great Success.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah 12)
“And also (He will give you) another (Blessing) which you love, - help from
Allah (against your enemies) and a near Victory. And give glad tidings (O
Muhammad) to the Believers.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah 13)
“Do you consider the providing of drinking water to pilgrims and the maintenance
of Al Masjid al Haram (at Makkah) as equal to the worth of those who Believe in
Allah and the Last Day, and strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah? They
are not equal before Allah! And Allah guides not those people who are the
dhaalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers). Those who Believed (in the Oneness of
Allah - Islamic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allah’s
Cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allah.
They are the Successful. Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a Mercy from Him
and that He is pleased (with them) and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein
are everlasting delights. They will dwell therein for ever. Verily, with Allah
is a great reward.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayat 19-20-21-22)
“Remember when you (Muhammad) said to the believers, ‘Is it not enough for you
that your Lord (Allah) should help you with three thousand angels sent down?’
Yes, if you hold on to patience and piety and the enemy comes rushing at you;
your Lord will help you with five thousand angels having marks (of distinction).
Allah made it not but as a Message of good news for you and as an assurance to
your hearts, and there is no Victory except from Allah the All Mighty, the All
Wise.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayat 124-125-126)
“So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad and you will be superior
(in Victory) if you are indeed (True) Believers. If a wound (and killing) has
touched you, be sure a similar wound (and killing) has touched the others. And
so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allah may
test those who Believe, and that He may take Martyrs from amongst you. And Allah
likes not the dhaalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers). And that Allah may test
(or purify) the Believers (from sins) and destroy the disbelievers. Do you think
that you will enter Paradise before Allah tests those of you who fought (in His
Cause) and (also) tests those who are patient?” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayat
139-140-141-142)
“Those who Believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight
in the cause of Taghut (Shaytaan etc.). So fight you against the friends of
Shaytaan; ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaytaan.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah
4 Ayah 76)
“Then fight, (O Muhammad), in the Cause of Allah, you are not tasked (held
responsible) except for yourself, and incite the Believers (to fight along with
you) , it may be that Allah will restrain the evil might of the disbelievers.
And Allah is Stronger in might and Stronger in punishing.” (The Noble Qur’an:
Surah 4 Ayah 84)
“Let those (Believers) who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter, fight
in the Cause of Allah; and whoso fights in the Cause of Allah and is killed or
gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 4
Ayah 74)
“Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day would not ask your leave to be
exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives, and Allah is the
All-Knower of Al-Muttaqun. It is only those who believe not in Allah and the
Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask your leave (to be exempted from
Jihad). So in their doubts they waver.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayat 45-46)
“Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the
wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the
dwellings in which you delight…are dearer to you than Allah and His messenger,
and striving hard and fighting in His Cause: then wait till Allah brings about
His decision (torment). And Allah guides not the peple who are Al-Fasiqun (the
rebellious, disobedient to Allah).” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayat 24).
“O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to
march forth in the Cause of Allah (i.e. go for Jihad), you cling heavily to the
earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter?
But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the
Hereafter.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayah 38)
“If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will
replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allah is Able
to do all things.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 9 Ayah 39)
“Those who believe say: “Why is not a Surah (Chapter the Qur’an) sent down (for
us)?” But when a decisive Surah (explaining and ordering things) is sent down,
and fighting (Jihad - holy fighting in Allah’s Cause) is mentioned (i.e.
ordained) therein, you will see those in whose hearts is a disease (of
hypocrisy) looking at you with a look of one fainting to death. But it was
better for them (hypocrites, to listen to Allah and to obey Him). Obedience (to
Allah) and good words (were better for them)…” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 47 Ayat
20-21)
“Verily! Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in rows (ranks) as if they
were a solid structure.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 61 Ayah 4)
“Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah,
[i.e. they have gone out for Jihad (holy fighting), and showed not their backs
to the disbelievers], of them some have fulfilled their obligations, (i.e. have
been martyred) and some still are waiting, but they have never changed [i.e.
they never proved treacherous to their covenant which they concluded with Allah]
in the least.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 33 Ayah 23)
“If Allah helps you, none can overcome you, and if He forsakes you, who is there
after Him that can help you? And in Allah (Alone) let Believers put their
trust.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayah 160)
“How often a small group overcame a mighty host by Allah’s leave? And Allah is
with the patient.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 2 Ayah 249)
“O you who Believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you and
make your foothold firm.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 47 Ayah 7)
“And, verily Our Word has gone forth of old for Our Slaves, - Messengers, that
they verily would be made Triumphant. And that Our hosts, they verily would be
Victors.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 37 Ayat 171-173)
“…and (as for) the Believers it was incumbent upon Us to help (them).” (The
Noble Qur’an: Surah 30 Ayah 47)
“Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met (i.e. battle of ‘Uhud),
it was Shaytaan who caused them to backslide (run away from the battlefield)
because of some (sins) they had earned…” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayah 155)
“…and do not dispute (with one another) lest you lose courage and your strength
depart, and be patient. Surely Allah is with those who are patient.” (The Noble
Qur’an: Surah 8 Ayah 46)
“O you who Believe! When you meet those who disbelieve in a battlefield, never
turn your backs to them.” (The Noble Qur’an: Surah 8 Ayah 15)
“And whosoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless it be a stratagem of
war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own) - he indeed has drawn upon himself
the wrath from Allah. And his abode is Hell, worst indeed is that destination!”
(The Noble Qur’an: Surah 8 Ayah 16)
“Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are
alive, with their Lord and they have provision. They rejoice in what Allah has
bestowed upon them of His Bounty, rejoicing for the sake of those who have not
yet joined them, but are left behind (not yet martyred) that on them no fear
shall come, nor shall they grieve. They rejoice in a Grace and a Bounty from
Allah and that Allah will not waste the reward of the Believers. Those who
answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad) after being wounded;
for those of them who did good deeds and feared Allah, there is a great reward.”
(The Noble Qur’an: Surah 3 Ayat 169-172)
Ahadith
The Holy Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam has said, “Know surely Jannah is in
the shades of swords.” (Paradise is under the shades of swords) (Saheeh Bukhari,
Vol.1, p395)
Hadhrat Abu Abbas `Abdur -Rahman RadiAllahu-`anhu narrates that the Prophet
SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam said, “Whosoever’s feet were covered with the dust in
the path of Jihaad, the fire of Hell will not touch him.” (Saheeh Bukhari,
Vol.1, p394)
Hadhrat Abu Darda RadhiAllahu-`anhu narrates that the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi
wasallam said: “Whosoever’s feet were covered with the dust in the path of
Jihaad, Allah moves Hell one thousand years away from this person.” (Tabrani.
Fathul Bari, p111)
Narrated Abu Saeed RadhiAllah-`anhu, I heard the Prophet SallAllahu-Alayhi
Wasallam saying, “Whosoever observes saum (fast) for one day for Allah’s cause,
Allah will keep his face away from the fire of Hell.” (A distance covered by a
journey of seventy years). (Saheeh Bukhari,P: 80 Vol.2)
“By Him in whose Hand is my soul, were it not for some men amongst the
believers, who disliked to be left behind me, and for whom I cannot provide any
means of conveyance, I would certainly never remain behind any unit setting out
for a military expedition in the Path of Allah. By Him in whose Hand is my soul,
I would love to be killed in the Path of Allah, then be brought back to life
again, then killed, then be brought back to life then killed, and then be
brought back to life then killed” [al-Bukhari from Abu Hurairah]
Narrated Abu Huraira Radhi-Allahu anho, the Prophet SallAllahu-alaihi wasallam
said, “A single endeavour (of fighting) in Allah’s cause in the afternoon or
forenoon is better than all that, on which the sun rises and sets.” (Saheeh
Bukhari, p392, Vol.1)
Narrated Al-Bara RadhiAllahu-`anhu, a man whose face was covered with an iron
armour (i.e. clad in armour) came to the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam and
said, “O Allah’s messenger! shall I fight or embrace Islam first?” The Prophet
SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam replied, “Embrace Islam first and then fight.” so he
embraced Islam and was Shaheed. Allah’s messenger SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam
said, “A little work, but a great reward.” (He did very little after embracing
Islam but he was rewarded in abundance.) (Saheeh Bukhari, Vol.1, p394)
“There are three types of those killed. A Mu`min man (a firm believer), who
makes Jihad with his wealth and his self in the Path of Allah until he meets the
enemy and fights them until he is killed. Then that is the Shaheed who has been
tested[to be] in the camp of Allah under His Throne. The Prophets are not better
than him, except by the level of Prophethood. And a man who oppresses his soul
with sins and errors, who makes Jihad with his self and his wealth in the Path
of Allah, until he meets the enemy and fights until he is killed. Then that is
Mumasmasatun (a purifier) that expiates his sins and errors. Indeed, the sword
wipes away errors. And he enters [Paradise] from any of the gates of Paradise he
wishes. For indeed [the Paradise] has eight gates, and the Hell has seven gates,
and some [of the gates] are better than others. And a hypocrite man, who makes
Jihad with his self and his wealth, until he meets the enemy and fights in the
Path of Allah until he is killed, then indeed he is in the Hellfire. Verily, the
sword does not wipe off an-Nifaaq (hypocrisy)” [Ahmad with Hasan chain, and Ibn
Hibbaan classified it Saheeh]
The Prophet - may the Salaah and the Salaam of Allah be upon him - was asked:
“Which killed person is the best?” He replied, “The one whose blood flows and
whose limbs are cut [with the sword] in the Path of Allah”. [Ahmad, Abu Dawud
and the narrators are trustworthy]
“Bury the killed in the places where they fought” [Saheeh, reported by the four
from Jaabir, and it is also in Saheeh al-Jami 247]
“One who falls down from his beast then he is a Shaheed” [Saheeh, at-Tabarani
from Uqbah bin Nafi’. Also in Saheeh al-Jami 6212
On the authority of Salamah bin al-Akwa’ who said: On the Day of Khaibar, my
brother fought very fiercely, but he was hit by his own sword and killed. So the
companions of the Messenger of Allah - may the Salaah and the Salaam of Allah be
upon him - said after having doubts about him [Salamah’s brother], “The man died
due to his own weapon” So the Prophet - may the Salaah and the Salaam of Allah
be upon him - said, “He died while making Jihad, as a Mujahid” Ibn Shahaab said:
I then asked Salamah Ibn al-Akwa’s son, so he narrated to me from his father the
like of it, except that he also said: The Messenger of Allah - may the Salaah
and the Salaam of Allah be upon him - said, “They have lied! He died while
making Jihad, as a Mujahid, so he will be rewarded twice” [Extracted by Bukhari
and Muslim and it is also found in the summarised Sunan Abi Dawud 2427]
On the authority of Abu Salaam - the Ethiopian - narrates about a man from the
companions of the Prophet - may the Salaah and the Salaam of Allah be upon him -
so he says: We attacked a area from the Juhayna [tribe], so a man from the
Muslims sought after a man from the tribe [to fight him], and he struck him but
erred and injured himself with the sword. So the Messenger of Allah - may the
Salaah and the Salaam of Allah be upon him - said, “Your brother! O Muslims!
[i.e. save him!]”, so the people rushed to him but found him dead. So the
Messenger of Allah - may the Salaah and the Salaam of Allah be upon him -
wrapped him with his garment and his blood, prayed over him and then buried him.
So the people said: O Messenger of Allah, is he Shaheed? He replied, “Yes! And I
am a Shaheed for him [i.e. I bear witness to his martyrdom].” [Abu Dawud and al-Mundhiri
remained silent, thus it is Hasan. Also found in al-Mukhtasar 2428]
Narrated Zaid Bin Khalid RadhiAllahu-`anhu,Allah’s Messenger SallAllahu-Alayhi
Wasallam said, “He who prepares a Ghazi (Islamic Warrior), going in Allah’s
cause, is given a reward equal to that of a Ghazi, and he who looks after the
dependents of a Ghazi going Allah’s cause properly, is given a reward equal to
that of a Ghazi, (Islamic fighter). (Bukhari, p399 : vol.1)
The Prophet SallAllahu-Alayhi wasallam said, “Whoever provides the needs of a
Mujahid, he will receive the reward of a Mujahid and the reward of the Ghazi
(Islamic fighter), will not be decreased.” (Ibne Majah, P198)
Narrated Jabir RadhiAllahu-`anhu the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi Wasallam said,
Who will bring me the information about the enemy on the day (of the battle) of
Al Ahzab (the confederates)?” Az Zubair RadhiAllahu-`anhu said, “I will” The
Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi Wasallam said again, “Who will bring the information
about the enemy?” Az Zubair RadhiAllahu-`anhu said, “I will”. The Prophet
SallAllahu-alayhi Wasallam said, “Every Prophet had a Hawari (disciple) and my
Hawari (disciple) is Az Zubair.” (Saheeh Bukhari, p399, Vol.1)
Narrated `AbdulLah Bin `Umar RadhiAllahu `Anhuma that the Prophet SallAllahu `Alayhi
Wasallam said, “Good will remain (as a permanent quality) in the forelocks of
horses (for Jihaad) till the day of judgement. Saheeh Bukhari (p399, Vol.1)
Narrated Abu Hurairah RadhiAllahu-`anhu, Allah’s messenger SallAllahu-alayhi
wasallam said, “Once Sulayman Alayhissalaam said ‘(By Allah) tonight I will have
sexual intercourse with one-hundred (or ninety-nine) women, of whom will give
birth to a knight who will fight in Allah’s cause.’ On that a companion of his
said, ‘Say Allah willing’, but he did not say Allah willing. Therefore only one
of those women conceived and gave birth to a part of man. By him in whose hands
Muhammad’s life is, if he had said, ‘Allah willing’ (he would have begotten
sons) all of whom would have been knights, striving in Allah’s cause.” (Saheeh
Bukhari, Vol.1, p395)
“The Shaheed does not feel [any pain] from killing, except as one of you feels
the prick of a needle” [Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi and an-Nasaa`I and the Sanad is Hasan]
“The best of the Shuhadaa` are those who fight in the frontlines, and do not
turn away their faces until they are killed. They will be thrown into the
highest rooms of Paradise, and Allah will laugh at them. And when your Lord
laughs at a slave in a certain instance, then there is no account for him”
[Ahmad with Saheeh chain (Saheeh al-Jami 1118)]
Narrated Abu Huraira Radhi-Allahu anho, the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi Wasallam
said, “By him in whose hands my life is! Were it not for some men amongst the
believers who dislike to be left behind me, and whom I cannot provide with means
of conveyance, I would certainly never remain behind any Sareeyah (army unit)
setting out in Allah’s cause. By Him in whose hands my life is! I would love to
be Shaheed in Allah’s cause and then be resurrected again, and then become
Shaheed and then be resurrected again and then become Shaheed and then be
resurrected again, and then become Shaheed.” (Saheeh Bukhari, English version,
p42-3:Vol.4)
Hadhrat Sahl bin Hanif narrates: The Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi Wasallam said,
“Whoever desired Shahadah with the true intention, Allah will ascend him to the
grade of the Shuhada even if he dies on his death bed.”
Narrated Anas bin Malik RadhiAllahu-`Anhu, Ummar Rubai bint Al-Bara, (the mother
of Haritha bin Suraqa) came to the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam and said,
“O Allah’s Prophet! Will you tell me about Haritha? Haritha has been killed
(i.e. Shaheed) on the day of Badr with an arrow fired by an unidentified
person.” She added, “If he is in Paradise I will be patient; otherwise I will
weep bitterly for him.” He said, “O mother of Haritha! There are gardens in
Paradise and your son got the Firdaus Al-`Ala (i.e. the best place in
Paradise).” (Saheeh Bukhari, Vol.1, p394)
Narrated Samura, the Prophet SallAllahu-alaihi wasallam said, “Last night two
men came to me (in a dream) and made me ascend a tree and then admitted me into
a better and superior house better of which I have never seen. One of them said,
this house is the house of the Shuhadah.” Sahih Bukhari, (p185, vol.1).
Narrated Hadhrat Anas bin Malik RadhiAllahu-`anhu, the Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi
wasallam said, “Nobody who enters Paradise likes to go to the world even if he
got everything in the earth, except a Mujahid who wishes to return to the world
so that he may be Shaheed ten times, because of the dignity he recieves, (from
Allah)” (Saheeh Bukhari, Vol.1, p395)
In Nasai, narrated by Hadhrat Anas RadhiAllahu-’anhu, the Messenger of Allah
SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam has said, “A person from the people of Paradise will
be called in front of Allah. Allah Ta`ala will ask him, “O son of Adam, how did
you find your place of stay?” He will reply, “It is the best place”. Then Allah
will say, “Ask and wish for something.” He will say, “I ask that you return me
to the world, so that I may be Shaheed, in your path, ten more times.” , (He
will ask for this), because he has seen the virtue of Shahadah.
Hadhrat Jabir RadhiAllahu-`anhu says, the Holy Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi
wasallam asked me, “Shall I not tell you what Allah Ta`ala had said to your
father? Allah Ta`ala said to him, ‘O my servant! Make a wish for something, I
will give to you’. He replied, ‘O my Lord! Give me life again so that I may be
slain again in your cause.’ Allah will say the desision has been made that they,
(the Shuhadah) will not return to the world again.” (Tirmizi)
One companion asked the Holy Prophet SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam, ‘O Messenger of
Allah SallAllahu-alayhi wasallam, what is the reason that every Muslim has to
face a trial of the grave, except the Shaheed?” The Holy Prophet SallAllahu
alayhi wasallam answered, “The sword over his head was enough as a trial.”
(Meaning, now he would not be put in any trial or torment.) (Kanzul Ummal,
Vol.4, p596)
“Indeed, in Paradise are a hundred levels which Allah has prepared for the
Mujahideen in His Path. The distance between each level is that of between the
heavens and the earth. So when you ask of Allah, then ask Him for Firdaws, for
it is the center of Paradise, and the highest part of Paradise, and above it is
the throne of The Most Merciful, from whence, the highest Firdaws, the rivers of
Paradise spring forth” (al-Bukhaari) The Shuhadaa` of Uhud:
“When your brothers were killed at Uhud, Allah placed their souls in the hearts
of green birds. They frequent the rivers of Paradise, and eat from its fruits,
then return to the lanterns under the Throne. When they enjoy the good in their
food and drink, and their excellent speech, they say, “We wish that our brothers
knew what Allah has prepared for us, so that they will never abstain from Jihad,
nor will they refrain from war” So Allah said, “I will inform them of you” So
Allah revealed these verses to His Messenger: “Think not of those killed in the
Path of Allah is dead…” (3:169) [Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Hakim classified it Saheeh
and adh-Dhahabi agreed] “There is nothing more beloved to Allah than two drops
or two marks. The teardrop that falls from the fear of Allah, and the drop of
blood shed in the Path of Allah. And as for the marks, then a mark in the Path
of Allah, and a mark in an obligation from the obligations unto Allah”. (Hasan,
reported by at-Tirmidhi)
“The Shuhadaa` are in a green dome beside the river of Baariq, near the gate of
Paradise, from which provision comes to them morning and evening” [Saheeh al-Jami]
“To be killed in the Path of Allah is more beloved to me than that people of
cities and villages belong to me” [Ahmad - narrators are trustworthy, and the
chain is strong]
“Verily, the souls of the Shuhadaa` are in the hearts of green birds, that eat
from the fruits of the Paradise” [Saheeh, reported by at-Tirmidhi from Ka’b Ibn
Malik, and it is also in Saheeh al-Jami 1555]
“Indeed the souls of the martyrs are in the hearts of green birds, and they have
lanterns hanging underneath the ‘arsh (the throne of Allaah). They roam around
in Paradise wherever they wish, then they return to their lanterns. So, their
Lord enquires: “Do you desire anything?” They say, “What can we desire for, when
we roam around in Paradise wherever we wish?” And He asks them this three times.
When they realize that they will not cease to be questioned, they say, “O Lord!
We wish that you return our souls to our bodies, in order that we be killed in
Your Path again” When it is realized that they have no need, they will be left
alone.” [Muslim]
“The Shaheed is granted seven special favours from Allah. He is forgiven (his
sins) at the first drop of his blood. He sees his place in Paradise. He is
dressed in the clothes of Iman. He is married to the Hoor al-’Ain (beautiful
women of Paradise). He is saved from the punishment of the grave. He will be
protected from the great fear of the Day of Judgement. A crown of honour will be
placed on his head, one jewel of which is better than the whole world and what
it contains. He is married to seventy-two of the Hoor al-’Ain (beautiful women
of Paradise), and he will be able to intercede for seventy members of his
family.”[Saheeh - Related by Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibbaan]
