A Look Into The Meaning
Of The Martyrdom Of A Mujahid

Allah SWT says: "And do not
say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , "They are
dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not."
(QS. 2 : 154).
In this verse, Allah SWT clarifies the condition of the
Mujahids who are slain in the way of Allah, they are not dead
but alive, blessed with His grace and favor. As in another
verse Allah SWT says: "And
whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger - those will be with the
ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the
steadfast affirmers of truth (siddiiqeen), the martyrs (shuhada
)and the righteous (soliheen). And excellent are those as
companions.” (QS. 4 :
69).
This means there is no doubt that they live in a realm that we
do not know where. In what sphere? Can it be perceived by the
sensory organs? etc. But we can see the silver lining, namely
when the topmost practice of religion (dienul Islam)
is performed, then the promise of Allah contained in the
Qur'an and Hadith is a reality. Not only that, they are even
assembled in a state of happiness, tranquility, peacefulness,
full of enjoyments, together with the Prophets, Sidiqqeen
and the righteous people.
There are some features made visible by Allah SWT to the
humans so that they are convinced of the truth of the
shaheed (martyrdom). Amongst the features are:
1. The janaza of the shaheed normally remains
intact and does not rot like the janaza of ordinary
people.
2. The fragrant scent of heaven that is nothing like it in this
world emanates from their bodies.
3. Their departure creates a sweetness and memory for the
families, relatives and the Islamic ummah.
4. Their faces are beaming though the bodies are damaged etc.
5. Emitting the light of iman that that creates the
sense of emotion, happiness and fascination for those who look
at the janaza.
6. Signs of shaheed shown through natural phenomena of
elements, creatures, etc.
These are just a part of features, there are still many other
signs of shaheed shown to us by Allah SWT. An
Ikhwan in fact had witnessed, when in the process of
laying to rest the janaza of a Mujahid in Moro,
Philippines, bright light which was suddenly emitted from the
grave pit, rising to the sky above that made the dark and
cloudy ambiance of the night turned to become like the morning
day, an extremely beautiful sight indeed. Then we heard from
an ikhwan that during the burial of Ash-Shaheed
Dr. Azahari, some family members and friends sighted the
script of the kalimah of shahadah:
"Laa Illaha Illallah Muhammadarasulullah"
(in Arabic) formed by a group of ants. Even here not long ago,
we were witnessing how the phenomena of nature and fauna (in
the form of green birds)
which occurred at the funeral of the Bali Bombing Trio: Amrozi,
Mukhlas and Imam Samudra, though they had been shaheed
but they still gave a big contribution to the families,
friends and the Islamic ummah. No matter how much the
kafir and munafiq hate and impede to damage
the image of the Mujahids by employing a variety of ways, yet
the makar (plot) of Allah SWT can never be defeated.
So it is appropriate that Allah SWT stated in the Qur'an in
surah: As-Saaff: 10-11 which means:
"O you who have believed, shall I
guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful
punishment? [It is that] you believe in Allah and His
Messenger and strive (conduct jihad) in the cause of Allah
with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if you
should know."
This is the path that should be applied now!! Not the way of
the thaghut that is assumed to be the same i.e. in
order to establish the Shari'a of Allah SWT. Whereas,
Allah SWT is not pleased with that way of the thaghut.
"Liyuhiqqal Haqqa Yayubtilal Batiila!!" As long
as we are still intermixing the haq with the
batil or we are still sitting together with the kafir
and munafiq, it is also that long that we will be
spun around like the people of Prophet Musa AS when they were
ordered to enter the city of Palestine and they refused
because they were afraid, whereas Allah SWT had already showed
them the way.....
"O my
people, enter the Holy Land (PALESTINE) which
Allah has assigned to you and do not turn back [from fighting
in Allah 's cause] and [thus] become losers. They said,
'O Moses, indeed within it is a people of tyrannical
strength, and indeed, we will never enter it until they leave
it; but if they leave it, then we will enter.' Said
two men from those who feared [to disobey] upon whom Allah had
bestowed favor, 'Enter upon them through the gate, for
when you have entered it, you will be predominant. And upon
Allah rely, if you should be believers' They said,
'O Moses, indeed we will not enter it, ever, as long
as they are within it; so go, you and your Lord, and fight.
Indeed, we are remaining right here.' [Moses] said,
'My Lord, indeed I do not possess except myself and my
brother, so part us from the defiantly disobedient people.'
[ Allah ] said, 'Then indeed, it is forbidden to them
for forty years [in which] they will wander throughout the
land. So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient people.'"
(QS : Al-Maidah : 21-26)
Such was a
piece of hope especially for us, so that it may become a much
deeper looking for the Ikhwans who are still
consistent in the path of Jihad fie Sabilillah, may
Allah unite us with the Prophets, Mujahids, Siddiiqeen
and Soliheen. Ameen.
