Reflections on Islamic World Events by Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys

The observer of the popular awakening in the Islamic world sees that the Ummah, despite enduring successive plots targeting its infrastructure and stability, and despite the weakness and degradation inflicted upon it during its abandonment of the Book and the Sunnah - which provide its position of strength and the primary support for its existence - is nonetheless capable of a revival and displaying the best and most superior examples of human dignity when striving for freedom and lofty values, including social justice and freedom of thought and action.

The End of the “Karzai’s” in the Islamic World:

In governing the Islamic world, the Western enemy imposed upon us personalities that belong to our world in name and appearance, but internally they are strangers to it and have no connection to it and its foundations in order to come between the citizens of a single country. Some imagine that such and such leader is a citizen of the homeland and therefore should be given an opportunity to achieve the desired welfare and justice.

This happened in Muslim Afghanistan. They tried to use Karzai as a cover to trick people and steer them away from their own principles and their sympathies for the Taliban government. The Taliban had ruled the country in adherence to Allah’s Shari’ah and had safeguarded the people’s lives, money, and honor. This earned them the right to be the West’s enemy. The West formed their army and harnessed their resources to eradicate them and to silence the voice of truth. They did this to destroy the little that the Afghan Muslim people built with great difficulty during the lean years of consecutive wars.

However, what is happening on the ground in this proud country clearly indicates the failure of this policy due first to Allah’s strength and then to the resolve of the Mujahideen and their adherence to the truth even though many people are remiss in their support for them.

The war, which has been going on for ten years, is a war against Islam and a futile attempt to bring Afghanistan to its knees. However by their determination, the Mujahideen lie in wait, and so most of the attempts have failed. By Allah’s will, they will continue to the end with the help of the children of the faith of the fathers, who have refused to give up their religion and Ummah for this world.

Somalia and the Moment of Truth:

The latest events in Somalia, especially the outcome of the Kampala Convention between the (two) Sharif’s, have revealed that the collapse of the Farmaajo government and its replacement with another are the fulfillment of the oppressive Western colonization project of Africa and the inauguration of political, military and economic occupation through a foreign council that will be the primary and fundamental authority for all that takes place in the country. There will be a puppet government that must submit all its decisions to this authority.

Without leaving any doubts, this has all revealed that the entire political process is in the hands of the African forces and their governments with American and international funding. Those claiming authority in the Somali government are nothing but lackeys and puppets in the hands of their masters. They have no ability or power but to obey those that made them.

They have been exposed. The people have realized that their president, prime minister, and all those in the military detachments and behind the Ugandan and Burundi tanks don’t act in any way that benefits the Somali Muslim people. Their goal is to please their African and Western masters and satisfy their selfish desires by plundering and selling the faith and the homeland for a cheap price. They will remain in torment for ever for succumbing to this temptation.

I say to the Somali people, who realize the truth and size of the conspiracy and scheme, “Rise up to the aid of your beloved country and save it from the claws of your enemies. Stand up to support your true religion and to bring down these lackeys from their seats of power that disgrace the glory, justice, and compassion of Islam.”

وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

{But honor belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and to the Believers; but the Hypocrites know not.}

The age of Karzai’s and puppets is long gone without a chance of it returning. They are destined for the trash heap of history and a miserable fate.

Arab Revolutions:

What they call, “The Spring of Arab Revolutions” has risen from the ashes to surprise the tyrants of the world and those who support them in the East and West. These protests have restored the Ummah’s strength and awakened its hidden vigor, which have lain dormant and sluggish for a long time. They have proven to the world that the Ummah is still alive and able to offer and perform miracles.

But even with all these positives and the great hopes our peoples attach to revolutions, we must keep an eye on things and carefully and deliberately weigh them so that they don’t produce the opposite results of what everyone is expecting. . The Ummah must recover its Islamic personality, heavenly principles, precious honor and high status rather than chasing after the illusions of democracy, socialism, Baathism, nationalism or other –isms that have led us astray from the path of righteousness.

As for the war launched by NATO in Libya, it is in my opinion, a war of destruction and sabotage because it is targeting vital installations and infrastructure more than it is targeting the oppressive power of Gaddafi.

It’s true that Gaddafi is tyrannical and corrupt. However, the NATO war is a war of destruction and assurance. It is destroying the foundations upon which the Libyan people have been working and will be based, so that the Islamists and Muslim Libyan people will not inherit them. And it is assurance to Israel, the Jewish state that is worse than Gaddafi and his government. Israel is more brazen than Gaddafi in committing genocide against defenseless people, and in violating so-called international law.

The goal they are working towards is clear. They want to have the decisive word after Gaddafi because of the sacrifices they imagine have been made by those (NATO) countries.

Do we not have the right to ask, “If they are telling the truth about protecting the air space from Gaddafi’s planes, why don’t they arm the rebels?” This step is sufficient to determine the outcome of the battle with the least amount of financial and human losses.

How heedless and small minded was the Arab League regarding its own security when it requested assistance from those whose intentions it did not know. The League can’t control the results of such assistance. The International Union of Muslim Scholars fell into the exact same trap as did the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia during the Second Gulf War. They allowed them to enter, but to this day, they have not been able to get them out. The same experience is reoccurring in Libya today. History is repeating itself.

As far as Syria is concerned, the regime saw that it could not survive without ruling the people with an iron fist. This leaves the people two options: either be exterminated or accept the regime and its rule over them. The Syrian people were given a choice between a life of dignity and a life of disgrace. They have no choice but to choose a life of dignity and reject the other, no matter how high the cost and how long the road.

If the people chose life one day, Fate has no choice but to answer.

One of the amazing discrepancies revealed by the Syrian revolution is the position of the Lebanese Hezbollah. It showed its true face and the black heart and mind symbolized by its black cloak as well as its ill regard for the entire Ummah. How can they deceive themselves into thinking they are blest when they support a regime that mercilessly and ruthlessly commits genocide against its own people and deports them?

حَسْبُنَا اللّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

{For us Allah sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs.}

Sudan…Falling into Idolatry

What stupidity, clouding of vision, ignorance of consequences, loving life and hating death is happening in Sudan? This includes an embargo, killing, forced migration, deprivation, starvation, terrorism, degradation and giving Ethiopia sovereignty over them. There is no power or might but in Allah.

Ethiopia’s intentions towards Sudan and its role in Sudan’s disintegration and dispersion are known. It is also known that Ethiopia is preparing to reinforce its territorial presence in the region. Therefore, I don’t know how it could be a leader, mediator and a peacekeeping force when it had already killed the peace in its infancy? This is like someone entrusting his sheep to a wolf.

A Call to Revolutionaries, Mujahideen, and the Ummah’s Educated People

Based on successive events in the Islamic world, and especially the Arab world, it is clear that we are living in a period of labor pains and the formation of a new reality. It requires that everyone be very responsible and circumspect. We cannot let our emotions lead us into the same mistakes we committed in the past. Neither can we let ourselves fall prey to foreign plans that are trying to steal the fruit of our labors and divert us from the true path.

فَاللّهُ خَيْرٌ حَافِظًا وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

{But Allah is the best to take care (of him), and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!}

I say to the revolutionaries of the Islamic world, “Unite and assume a single leadership. After the revolution and bloodshed we have seen in recent events, do not regress and leave the Straight Path, divided and in conflict with each other.

Make an unbreakable covenant with Allah. Rely on the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His great prophet, blessing and peace of Allah be upon him. It will make you the best of peoples.

كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَلَوْ آمَنَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُم مِّنْهُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ

{Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors.}

In another verse:

وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَزَيَّنَهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الرَّاشِدُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَنِعْمَةً وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

{But Allah has endeared the Faith to you, and has made it beautiful in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you Unbelief, wickedness, and rebellion: such indeed are those who walk in righteousness;- A Grace and Favor from Allah, and Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.}

Scholars and intellectuals should study the situation and devise appropriate plans. They should guide the young revolutionaries, stand with them on the battlefields, mingle with them, and get close to them to make the transition process flow smoothly and in accordance with the aspirations of our Muslim peoples.

Last but not least, I call upon all Mujahideen in the Islamic world to unite religiously and administratively, taking into consideration the circumstances and situation in each one of the Islamic countries. I am stressing that the Ummah must participate in this matter, and not be isolated from it. Go with the Ummah and don’t be closed to it. Be forbearing with it, don’t be harsh with it, be kind, and do not resort to violence against it. Allah the Exalted One says:

مُّحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ أَشِدَّاء عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَاء بَيْنَهُمْ

{Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. And those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other.}

Through Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, from the prophet, blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, who said, “Kindness simply portrays beauty in every matter without depriving it of what is deserves.” [Narrated by Muslim].

Through Miqdad Bin Shuraih from his father, who said, “I asked Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, about Bedouin life, and she said, ‘When the messenger of Allah, blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, was once wending his way toward these hills and seeking Bedouin life, he sent a female camel to me and said to me, (Be kind, for kindness simply portrays beauty in every matter without depriving it of what it deserves.’” Abu Dawud.

Also from Aisha when she was on a camel and started beating it, the prophet, blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, said, “Aisha, be kind, for kindness simply portrays beauty in every matter without depriving it of what it deserves.”

I advise them that they revive the religious duty of Jihad, which Allah has ordained for His Muslim Ummah until this very hour so that all religion will be for Allah. When some religion is for someone other than Allah, it must be fought. Muslims agree on this.

The Almighty said:

وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لاَ تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ لِلّهِ

{And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah.}

The Exalted One said:

وَقَاتِلُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ وَلاَ تَعْتَدُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبِّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ

{Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.}

The Almighty also said:

قَاتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُّؤْمِنِينَ وَيُذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَيَتُوبُ اللّهُ عَلَى مَن يَشَاء وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

{Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of Believers, And still the indignation of their hearts. For Allah will turn (in mercy) to whom He will; and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.}
